About RMJ
Welcome to the studio — a space where original photographs are transformed into limited-edition fine art prints. Each piece is hand-crafted on Hahnemühle paper, produced in small runs, and shipped directly from the artist with care. Collectors can expect museum-quality prints, thoughtfully made and offered in exclusive monthly releases.”
Raymond McCrea Jones is a photographer, filmmaker, and visual storyteller based in the Southern United States. He began his career at The New York Times before relocating south and building an independent practice that bridges fine art, commercial work, and documentary storytelling.
With more than 15 years of experience, Jones’s background spans photography, video direction, large-scale productions, higher education, and brand storytelling. He launched his career as an intern at The New York Times, working his way through the photography department and collaborating closely with Andrew DeVigal and the multimedia team during a transformative era in digital journalism. His time spent working alongside Michele McNally and Kathy Ryan were awe inspiring. Known for his distinctive blend of contemporary reportage and narrative portraiture, Jones creates imagery driven by boundless curiosity and emotional depth.
After leaving The New York Times, Jones expanded his practice — working in the CNN newsroom, producing video for higher education, building a thriving freelance career, and serving as the in-house photographer for Habitat for Humanity International. In 2016, he co-founded ATL Photo Night, a monthly creative gathering dedicated to exploring the artistic process. Since 2018, Jones has also served as Creative Director of Creature Studio, the production company he co-owns with his wife, Jenn Jones. He has been represented by Redux Pictures since 2011.
Jones’s creative vision has attracted commissions from leading brands and publications including The New York Times Magazine, Rolling Stone, Billboard, Samsung, Delta, Mercedes-Benz, and Spotify. As a director of photography and motion, he is known for his purposeful vision, collaborative leadership, and ability to connect deeply with both clients and subjects.
In addition to his commercial work, Jones is deeply committed to long-term personal projects. He is the author of two monographs — Out of Step: Faces of Straight Edge (Empire Press, 2007) and Birth of a Warrior: Ten Weeks in Basic Training (University Press of New England, 2015) — and the creator of The Palmetto Portrait Project (2024). His work has been widely exhibited in galleries and museums and featured in publications around the world.
